Bibliographic Information
Angus Carlyle, Rupert Cox, Kozo Hiramatsu: ZAWAWA Listening to the Aftermaths of Conflicts in Okinawa, Archive Books, Berlin, 2024.

The ZAWAWA project is based on sound recordings and visual materials collected in Okinawa over a period of approximately ten years. It explores memories embedded in place, the lingering echoes of conflict, and the traces of everyday life that continue afterward through both sound and image.

As noted on the About page, ZAWAWA was carried out as one of several collaborative projects with The University of Manchester. The project approaches sound not merely as a physical phenomenon, but as something deeply connected to people's lives, history, and local communities.
